QR codes — What are they?

QR Code (abbreviation Quick Response Code) is a type of matrix bar-code (or two-dimensional code) initially designed for the automotive industry. When you look at aQR Code it consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. This is how a QR Code looks like :-

In modern times, QR codes are becoming very popular in our daily lives. Smartphones are used to scan the QR codes and the contents gets uploaded on the phone. They are more useful and popular than standard barcodes as they can store (and digitally present) more details, information like url links, text and geo coordinates.

To read a QR code all you need is a QR reader installed on your smartphone. There are different types of software available for QR Codes like KAYWA, Nokia & i-nigma. (Disclaimer, we have not tested any of the above s/w have only listed them as per popularity) :- It takes seconds to install QR reader on your blackberry,  iPhone or Android based phone.
